Edit target/linux/x86/config-<version> and add appropriate kernel 
options for enabling SMP in kernel.

eg.
  CONFIG_X86_SMP=y
  CONFIG_SMP=y

However, I've noticed that compilation dies at random with 8.09.1 
in packages part. No error, no anything - it just ends.
SMP works in -trunk (svn) version. Beware, there are multiple 
versions of kernel config resp. multiple kernel versions.
